"How Do You Choose A Contractor You Can Trust For Your Site Work, Land Clearing Or Hauling Needs?"

You're looking for a contractor for your residential or commercial project... someone who can do site work, land clearing or hauling in Maryland, Washington DC or Virginia...

But let's face it - it can be hard to know who to hire for your project. How do you find a contractor you can trust and that has the experience and knowledge to do the job right?

If you're a home owner you're going to be trusting the contractor to look out for your home and your property. That takes a lot of trust.

If you're a contractor or government agency you're looking for a contractor you can trust to get the job done right the first time... someone who won't create more problems than they solve.

Finding a good contractor to do exactly what you want done without causing you headache and heartache may be harder to find than you think.

You may laugh, but you know it's true.

No matter what your project is...

  • Backfill
  • Debris Removal
  • Demolition
  • Driveway
  • Excavating
  • Grading
  • Hauling Service
  • Land Clearing
  • Site Work
  • Tree Removal

...you want a company that's well established and reliable - someone you can trust, right? Okay, so here are some tips for selecting the right contractor.

Make Sure They're Licensed And Insured

Of course you want a contractor who is licensed and insured. Did you know that if you hire someone who isn't licensed and insured you can be held liable for any damages by the contractor? In fact, you could even be held liable if one of the workers is injured while doing work for you.

So, that's a great starting point. But don't make the mistake like many people do and think that because a contractor is licensed and insured that they'll do a good job.

Really, it's true. Licensing and insurance have nothing to do with their work ethic. In fact, with some contractors good luck finding them after the job is done - especially if you have a question or a problem.

Make Sure They Know And Understand The Job

Make sure the contractor has viewed the scope of the project and understands what needs to be done. You can tell a lot about the quality of the contractor just by talking with them and seeing how well they listen.

If they spend more time telling you how great they are... and how they've done this kind of work hundreds of time... rather than taking the time to listen to what needs to be done - you can be sure they're not too concerned with your wants and needs.

They're just treating your project like any other project. They won't give your project the attention and service you deserve.

Are They Familiar With The Impacts Of Their Work?

This kind of work can have a big impact on surrounding property and buildings.

Improper backfill can cause water to drain towards a house's foundation. This can cause a lifetime of expensive problems...

Demolition work that is not done correctly can damage property and buildings that were to remain intact. It can create a safety hazard. And it can cause environmental damage....

Grading and land clearing that is incorrectly done can cause soil erosion, water run off that damages neighboring properties, and water run off that damages the environment. As the property owner you may have your hands full with land problems, water problems, angry neighbors, and maybe even lawsuits and fines from work that is done by a contractor without the right experience.

These are just a few examples of potential impacts. Your contractor should be familiar with the impacts of their work... they should know how to eliminate or minimize these issues... be well informed of environmental issues... and care about doing their work correctly to avoid as many issues as possible.

What About Their Equipment?

If you're going to hire a contractor for your project, you want them to have the right equipment for the job.

But you also want them to have equipment that's in good working order. It's really frustrating to have your project delayed because the contractor didn't take the time or spend the money to properly maintain their equipment.

Besides that, shoddy equipment is a safety risk.

Just so you know... when we're not working on a project we're busy maintaining our equipment in tip-top shape. And when we're on a project we still make sure the equipment is kept in good working order. While this doesn't totally prevent equipment failure, it sure does reduce how often it happens.

And since we do our own maintenance work, we can quickly get back up and running. We don't have to sit around waiting for whenever some service company can come out to take care of the issue.

What Are Their Work Ethics?

Wow, this is really where you start sorting out the competition. You wouldn't think things like...

  • showing up on time...
  • maintaining the schedule...
  • protecting the surrounding property and buildings...
  • cleaning up when the job is done...

would be so hard to find in a site work, land clearing and hauling contractor. But they sure are.

Your time is valuable. And your schedule is really important. So just showing up on time and staying on schedule can mean a lot to you. We understand that.

When you're working with big, heavy equipment if you're not concerned about protecting the surrounding property and buildings it's likely that something will get damaged. That's why all our crews pay attention and are trained to be aware when they're working.

And my gosh, why is finding a contractor who understands leaving a site in good, clean condition so hard to find? I don't know.

But I do know that you don't want a big mess on your hands when the contractor is done your project. I "get it". So I make sure that we don't rest until the job is complete, the area is neat and you, our customer, is pleased.

The bottom line is, it doesn't matter if you're a commercial contractor, a private home owner, or a state or federal agency. You want a contractor that will meet these requirements. That's how you choose a contractor you can trust.
